About My Mother's Bloomers
Our Beginnings
My Mother’s Bloomers started in Halifax in 1992, on the busy Spring Garden Road. After ten years, we moved our store to Spring Garden Place, across the street, where we love being neighbours with some of the finest merchants in the city.
The store is owned by good friends, John MacPherson and Neville MacKay. Although John has a love of flowers (and is very good working with them), he does not work in the store, but provides moral support when needed! Neville works in the store full time along with the Bloomers team.
What is the origin of our name?
Many people ask about the origin of the name, “My Mother’s Bloomers”, and although the first thing to come to mind may be a good giggle, the name has sentimental value to Neville. Neville’s mother is an avid gardener from England, and when he was a child, she would call her sons her “little blooms” and “bloomers” when they helped in the garden: hence the name,” My Mother’s Bloomers”.
Our Team
We have a great team of floral designers and consultants here. Having a combined experience of over 30 years, our work has been featured on local and national television, as well as in many magazines and newspapers. We have done work for local and international celebrities such as Mary Walsh, the Rankin family, Rod Stewart, and Celine Dion, and have designed florals for the Royal Family, the 2006 Juno Awards, and also for the G-7 Summit held here in Halifax.
